Today, I have Jennifer Eaton visiting. She is part of the Make Believe anthology with J. Keller Ford and also has another anthology release as well. Check out her books at the end of this post. Thanks for stopping by Jennifer!

Jennifer Eaton lives on the East Coast USA with her husband, three boys, and a pepped up poodle. She hosts an interactive website www.jennifermeaton.com aimed at making all writers the best they can be.

Her Dystopian novelette “Last Winter Red” is available as part of the “Make Believe” Anthology from J.Taylor Publishing. Her Christmas Romance “Connect the Dots” is available as part of Still Moments publishing’s “For the Love of Christmas” Anthology. Both are available in ebook format from Amazon.com and Barnesandnoble.com and Smashwords.

Sucking it up and Doing what God tells you to do

For a while now, I’ve felt poked to write Romance. The whole idea seemed odd to me because, to be totally honest, I don’t really read very much Romance. I’m an “action adventure” type at heart.

Also, as I read Romance, it never really seems realistic to me. I mean, it’s fun and all to read about these over-the top women who do things I would never in a million years do… but in my mind, these stories are very much fantasy. As a religious woman, I just couldn’t relate to people living such “open” lives as generally depicted in these stories.

So how did I write my own Romance and keep true to myself?

The idea for Connect the Dots came to me quite suddenly. Competitive by nature, I cannot turn down what my brain considers an “opportunity.” My friend was submitting a Romance story for an Anthology, so my warped brain needed to submit a story of my own.

But there is the snag. It’s a Christmas Romance Anthology. I’m not a Romance author… but that didn’t mean I wasn’t going to try.

I sat down one day, and wrote “Dear Santa.” I stopped, trying to evolve the story from those two words. I felt a little tickle in the back of my head, crossed out those words, and replaced them with “Dear God.”

That was all I needed. Within seconds, a story flew into my head… A Romance centered around a Christmas prayer… A story about how a well-placed prayer can change lives.

Risky? I thought so, but I deeply believed in it, and I believed in the message of my story.

I sent “Connect the Dots” to the publisher at 11:00 PM on a Sunday night, and by Monday Afternoon I had a contract offer.

Yep, the Big Guy works fast when He’s happy with what you do.

Connect the Dots is a wonderful Christmas story about a misplaced Christmas wish that proves that we don’t always know what will make us happy. Luckily enough for us, God knows how to read between the lines.

I didn’t know what I really wanted either, but God “poked” me and showed me how to write a Romantic story and keep true to my values all at the same time.

Last Winter Red: In search of a husband, Emily leaves the safety of the city and risks her life stepping into the outside world. What she finds there will question the foundations of everything she believes in.

Connect the Dots: Jill has no idea what she wants for Christmas, but when it looks like her best friend Jack is going to get exactly what he asks for, Jill makes a Christmas wish that will change both of their lives forever.
